Combat is complex and requires patience from players

As I explained in the first paragraph, Kingdom Come: Deliverance has the same leveling system as The Elder Scrolls. Henry’s attributes and skills will continue to increase with the more often Henry does activities that can improve his skills. If Henry continues to use a sword, his sword skills will continue to rise, if he often rides a horse, his skills in this matter will continue to increase. At a certain level, Henry will get several choices perk specific to the skill that had just leveled up. However perk this always has big consequences behind the benefits provided. For example, there are perk which can make Henry’s attacks stronger, but the stamina required is also greater. There’s also perk which has the opposite effect, making the stamina required less, but the attacks dealt are much weaker. This system makes leveling not as useful as it should be, but basically this is just a bonus, what should level up is your playing skills.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a tough game, you’re really pushed to keep getting better the longer you play. All aspects of the gameplay in this game are very complex and require patience, especially when playing games melee combat. In short, melee combat from Kingdom Come: Deliverance is almost like Mount and Blade, but with some improvisations that make combat much more “realistic”. Combat in Kingdom Come: Deliverance is not combat where you can easily defeat all enemies alone. Combat in this game it is very slow and pushes you to be strategic.

In Kingdom Come: Deliverance, you can attack enemies from various sides – up, right up, down right, top left, bottom left and also stab to the middle. Enemies can also do the same thing, the only difference between you and the enemy is the armor used and the tactics in playing the sword. Enemies like bandits are usually easy to defeat because they don’t have armor and their reflexes aren’t that great. However, enemies such as soldiers or even captains will be much more difficult to overcome because of their super thick armor and their more professional way of fighting. Dying in this game is a natural thing, especially for newcomers. But the longer you will get used to this difficult gameplay as long as you are patient. You will be smarter in determining the position, and determining the time when to attack. It was satisfying to develop from a village boy who was confused about how to swing a sword to become a warrior feared by the enemy and revered by the Bohemian people.

Constantly dying is common in this game

In addition to close combat, you can also use ranged weapons such as arrows in this game, and you could say using this weapon is much more difficult. The game intentionally doesn’t give you crosshair when using arrows. Then you have to estimate for yourself whether your aim is right on target or not. Just like melee combat, you are forced to adapt to this mechanic because some future quests will tell you to use arrows. This arrow is also your best friend if you want to hunt, where hunting in this game is a fun way to earn money as well as food stock.

You have to estimate the direction of the arrow without the help of a crosshair

Simulation Elements Enriching Gameplay

Reading is a rare skill in Bohemia

Aside from the complicated fighting mechanics, there are several other gameplay mechanics that the developers didn’t make easy. Let’s start with the lockpick first. The lockpick in this game is not the lockpick system that you often encounter in the Bethesda game. The minigame used by Warhorse in this action is relatively easy to learn but difficult to execute. Even to complete the easiest level is already very difficult and requires a lot of adaptation, now imagine for yourself how difficult it is for the “hard” level. It’s a little difficult to explain in detail how the lockpick process of this game is, but you will understand for yourself when you play directly.

In each fight, your sword will be filled with the blood of the enemy you just killed. The more you use the sword over a period of time, the more damaged the sword will be and the less effective it will be. Therefore, players must diligently visit the sword sharpener which is usually located in the big cities in Bohemia. Sharpening this sword is not done automatically, you have to sharpen your sword yourself through a kind of minigame. You have to estimate the right angle in the sharpening process if you don’t want your sword to become dull or become too thin and easily damaged. Unfortunately there are no similar mechanics for armor, shields and blunt weapons, making this mechanic feel half done.

Swords have to be repaired manually often

Another complex mechanic is mechanic alchemy, where you manually have to do the process of making potions or drinks yourself saviour schapps which is the most important thing in this game. Potion recipes are usually written down in a book every time you come across a new recipe, but be reminded that Henry can’t read. And to learn how to read to him was through a certain secretary who would teach Henry. The funny thing is that the lower your reading skill, the more difficult it is to understand the meaning of the book you are reading because the grammar and writing in the book are made carelessly if Henry has low reading skills. Back to the question alchemy, you really have to follow the steps of making potions if you want your product to be finished. You could say the process is not that complicated, but seeing you have to do it manually is something unique that other games rarely do.

Apart from some of the complex mechanics above, the game also has a hunger, sleep and limited save system. Like an ordinary human being, Henry needs to eat and sleep every day, Henry should not be hungry, too sleepy and also too full. If this happens, Henry’s performance will decrease, namely with decreased stamina, loss of concentration and also constantly complaining to himself. Food itself must be selected, Henry should not eat food that is stale. Eating stale food can increase the risk of poisoning and reduce Henry’s health every second.

The save system in the game is strictly limited so that players cannot “spam save”. Save can only be done while sleeping or when you have an alcoholic drink called Savior Schapps which is very expensive but can be made by yourself alchemy. At first, I found this save system really unique and cool because now I can’t “save scum” every time I feel something dangerous is going to happen. But the longer I play, the more annoyed I get with this save system. When you die, you have to restart from the moment you woke up or the last time you drank Savior Schapps. What happens if the game suddenly has a bug or glitch, or if the game suddenly crashes? You are forced to have to start all over again doing all the tasks you did a few minutes ago and you have to do it again because the game forces you to do that. Maybe it sounds like a coward, but I decided to use the unlimited save mod after being annoyed that I had to start over every time something bad happened.
