US Muslim Advocacy Group Asks Valve, Sony and Microsoft to Ban Six Days in Fallujah

Six Days in Fallujah was previously canceled by Konami in 2010 due to continuing controversy during game development. 10 years later, this game was re-announced and this time reworked by Highwire Games, even though it’s been more than 16 years since the war, it doesn’t mean that the conflict is reasonable to be appointed as an entertainment medium.

Council on American-Islamic Relations or CAIR, the United States Muslim rights and advocacy agency, asked Valve, Microsoft, and Sony to refuse distribution of the release of Six Days in Fallujah because the game glorifies violence against Muslims as well as the war in Iraq.

“We ask Microsoft, Sony and Valve to ban their platforms from hosting Six Days in Fallujah, an Arab murder simulator that only tries to normalize violence against Muslims in America and around the world,” wrote CAIR coordinator Huzaifa Shahbaz on the official website.

“The video game industry must stop degrading Muslims. Video games like Six Days in Fallujah only serve to glorify the violence that claimed hundreds of Iraqi lives, justify the Iraq war, and reinforce anti-Muslim sentiment at a time when anti-Muslim bigotry continues to threaten human life,” he added.

Fallujah Game 5

Highwire Games, the studio that contains the former developer from Bungie, said that the game they are working on is a game that is serious about telling the tragedy that occurred during the Fallujah war. However, many people consider the game to be a game that is again pro-American and describe them as heroes in the story. Daniel Ahmad, one of the leading analysts in the gaming industry, called this game a “shallow attempt to explain the illegal Iraq war” and also as a promotion of military recruitment considering the United States is experiencing a crisis of a new generation of soldiers.

Six Days in Fallujah is planned for release this year, although a definite release date has not yet been announced. The game has already appeared on the Steam page, but we’ll see if this kind of move can get the game canceled a second time.
